In the empire of Tessara, royal cartographers don't just map the world — they define it. What they draw becomes real. What they erase ceases to exist. When a cartographer accidentally erases an entire city, he's bound in ink and exiled to the blank spaces of the map — the places that don't exist yet, where reality is still being written.
Corin Thane was the youngest Royal Cartographer in Tessara's history. His maps were so precise, so perfectly rendered, that reality conformed to them. Rivers flowed where he drew them. Mountains rose where he sketched them. Cities thrived within the borders he defined. It was the highest art in the empire — and the most dangerous. One error in calculation, one slip of the pen, and the city of Ashenmere ceased to exist. Not destroyed — simply unmade, as if it had never been. Thirty thousand people, gone between one heartbeat and the next. The empire's punishment was worse than death. They bound Corin in living ink — ink that seeps into his skin and marks him as an exile — and cast him into the Blank, the unmapped territory beyond the edges of reality where the world hasn't been drawn yet. In the Blank, nothing is fixed. Landscape shifts like smoke. Time flows in directions that shouldn't exist. And Corin discovers something that the Royal Cartographers have kept secret for centuries: the Blank isn't empty. There are things living in the unwritten spaces, and they've been watching reality being drawn around them for a very long time. They want Corin's ink. And they're willing to tear apart the edges of the map to get it.
